The Job

Get professional experience in communications, HR, and the management of non-profits, while improving your Spanish in the beautiful Andean capital of Quito, Ecuador.

Role Description:

CENIT is an Ecuadorian-run NGO located in an impoverished neighbourhood in the south of Quito, working to eradicate child labour and empower at-risk working children and their families by providing comprehensive educational, vocational, health, social and psychological services.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the process of recruiting and supporting volunteers. As the effective head of the volunteers they should be an approachable figure who acts as the point of first contact when issues arise. The role is busy and varied, and requires organisation, creative problem-solving, dedication and a willingness to take on new challenges.

The job is stimulating and enriching and provides a comprehensive view of the internal workings of a non-profit. It gives constant opportunity for interaction with the Ecuadorian staff and offers a unique chance to be immersed both in the Ecuadorian culture and at the same time a professional working environment.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit volunteers, answer enquiries, conduct interviews and deliver an induction on arrival
  • Support volunteers as needed, monitor progress and ensure their welfare
  • Act as the link between volunteers and Ecuadorian staff to resolve difficulties and communication issues
  • Foster and maintain relations with volunteer organisations, supporters and ex-volunteers
  • Regularly update and maintain the Facebook page, newsletter and website
  • Attend meetings with Directive Staff and to report on behalf of volunteer programs
  • Be an active part of the Fundraising Commission and the Communications Team


The perfect candidate

  • Good level of written and spoken Spanish and English (other additional languages advantageous)
  • Excellent ability to communicate with empathy, tact and professionalism
  • Good leadership and teamwork skills, capable of taking initiative, extremely well organised
  • Able to set long term goals and put in place systems and structures to achieve these
  • Enthusiasm for and dedication to the mission of CENIT to progressively eradicate child labour in Quito
  • University study or other tertiary education desirable
  • Experience with administrative and organisational task highly valuable, ability to maintain well-organised records both in hard copy and digital form essential

Understanding

Writing
C1 - Can express self in clear, well-structured text describing points of view at length.
Speaking
B2 - Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity, and can explain viewpoint.

This role is considered voluntary work. CENIT does, however, try to offer a small amount of compensation to help you to cover costs. Life in Ecuador is relatively cheap, and you are entitled to free lunch in CENIT each working day. CENIT can also assist in obtaining a volunteer visa. We are looking for an 11 month minimum commitment (September-July)
